Society at large has spent decades mocking the people who work in fast food; are they now surprised nobody wants to work this hard, badly paid job where nobody will respect you?

Show up for the interview. Decline job offer. Collect $50. Win.

Society: *get a real job! You only work there because you’re stupid! You don’t deserve more than $7.25/hour! I’m glad you’re starving and can’t pay your bills it will motivate you to be better and work harder!*

Fast food joints: “We can’t afford to pay 15 dollars an hour. It would bankrupt us!”

Also fast food joints: “Show up to an interview and get 50 bucks!”

NBC News just ran a story about how employers can’t hire people because they make more on unemployment. The story also noted that unemployment works out to about $15/hour.

Huh, $15/hour? Now where have I heard that before?

Anytime you see a hiring bonus, don’t even think about working there. There’s a reason for that. A paid *interview?* Damn. That has to be hell on earth in that joint.

McDonald’s is a shit job. I think most people want to skip working a miserable temporary job at all costs.

As someone who wasted six months of their life at McDonalds, don’t make this mistake. No amount of money is worth working for them.

Let’s assume they pay 10 an hr & you work 30 hours under bullying conditions (like I used to!) you can still receive more on unemployment without the mental stress.

These people will call them lazy. Say they don’t want to work. But they just don’t want to work shitty part-time jobs. They need full-time hours to afford to live and survive. But the same people that call themm lazy will just say that they need to start at part time and work their way up. The problem with that stupid thinking is if everyone works their way up then there would be nobody to do the jobs on the bottom and everything would fall apart. So in essence capitalism is always doomed to fail because of stupidity.

    Edit: spelling

i think its moreso. …you cant live on a min wage part time job anymore

and no one wants to work there in those horrid conditions for shit pay.

it just isn’t worth it anymore… and people are wising up.
hopefully corps change sooner rather than later.

“fast food is a starter job! not a career! if you want to make more money, go to school!”

well that’s where everybody went. they got a taste of what it’s like to be able to pay their bills, so why go to work and make 1/4th what unemployment pays when they can stay home and get paid while looking for a job that pays more?

Working at McDonald’s was absolute HELL for me. I am autistic, and I have severe anxiety, so I was constantly getting sensory overload in that kitchen and then getting embarrassed cause I can’t control it. If it got bad enough, my mind would even black out and I genuinely didn’t remember doing certain things I did there. That was my first job, many years ago. I have no idea why people say it’s such an easy job. Wtf. Calculus is less stressful than that. That was a torture prison for only $7.25 an hour. It’s no wonder they are paying people to apply!

  29. TenderlyPut Avatar

Most corporate kitchens are a mess right now. It seems the trend is to overwork people and claim their budget doesn’t support a larger staff that would better delegate work. Quality of life is bad enough, but at work now too? Fuck that, no wonder nobody wants to show up.

I remember when meriam webster was sued by McDonald’s for the inclusion of McJob in the dictionary.

When you are notorious for low paying jobs with dismal career paths, don’t be surprised when you can’t find workers.

I actually did not have what it takes…. I couldn’t time the fucking fries. Was shit canned in my college days. I’m a “professional” middle age person now that couldn’t cut it in fast food. I will only admit this to strangers I will never meet IRL 😐

When I was trying for my first job, I applied at multiple McDonald’s and not a single one called me for an interview.

When I was laid off and needing work desperately I applied at McDonald’s and not a single one called me for an interview.

They can suck it. I tell all my friends it’s not worth applying there either.

Does this have anything to do with pandemic relief packages paying much higher than McDonald’s wages, therefore they rather receive relief income and stay at home than go back to McD’s? Not from US so please inform me.

Taco Bell is opening an automat type restaurant in Times Square. In automat style, the food will be prepared behind the scenes and then dropped into shoots (i don’t think this is the right word). Maybe this type of automat restaurant will soon proliferate if fast food chains have trouble finding staff. Low wages is not the only reason people don’t want to work fast food. People don’t want to deal with the crappy public…Sartre was right when he wrote the famous line “Hell is other people.”

Step one: go interview at McDonald’s.
    Step two: receive $50
Step three: go to the drive through.
Step four: order $50 worth of McDonald’s
Step five: drive away without paying.
