Ministry of Internal Affairs: Russians are threatened by spoofing, this is a new type of fraud
Fraudsters have begun to spoof well-known websites and phone numbers. About a new type of deception called “spoofing” told V Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
In the Telegram channel, the department explained that attackers create websites disguised as official resources, with the help of which they can steal personal data of Russians. Also, using fake mobile numbers, scammers send victims malicious files, which are usually disguised as work files. By opening such a file, the owner of the gadget will automatically install a malicious program.
To avoid becoming a victim of spoofing, the Ministry of Internal Affairs urged Russians to carefully check the addresses of message senders, be attentive to email attachments, and also be more careful when answering phone calls. The department also emphasized that one should not disclose personal data online, so as not to become a victim of deception.

A new method of fraud has also appeared on WhatsApp
Previously, Director of Information Technology at EdgeCenter Sergey Lipov toldthat the attackers began to act according to a new scheme in the WhatsApp messenger. To do this, they use GIF images into which they insert malicious code or a link to a phishing site.
Scammers have once again demonstrated their ingenuity by introducing a new way to deceive WhatsApp users. This time they are using GIFs that at first glance seem harmless and even pleasant
Most often, messenger users send GIF images to each other during the holidays, Lipov noted, so such messages are usually opened without a second thought. He advised not to open GIFs from unfamiliar contacts and install reliable anti-virus software on your phone.
“Even if the message came from an acquaintance, but looks suspicious, it is better to check with the sender about its authenticity,” he recommended.
The Ministry of Digital Development has developed measures to protect Russians from fraud
Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media (Ministry of Digital Development) together with law enforcement agencies and Central Bank (Central Bank) have developed about 30 measures to protect Russians from financial fraudsters. About this told representative of the Deputy Prime Minister’s office RF Dmitry Grigorenko.
We are talking about a package of bills aimed at protecting citizens from fraudulent schemes using information technology. Their main goal will be to counter “all the most common tricks of cyber fraudsters,” including deception through calls and messages, hacking personal accounts and issuing loans on other people’s passports, Grigorenko specified.
For example, Russians will be able to remotely prohibit the issuance of loans and borrowings in their name via the Internet using State Services or banking applications. This restriction can be lifted by visiting the MFC or a branch of a financial institution in person.
In addition, it is planned to introduce a ban on communication between government agencies, banks and telecom operators with clients using instant messengers. “Citizens will understand that all official notifications can only come through trusted communication channels,” Grigorenko noted.
