Candidate of Medical Sciences, senior lecturer at the Department of Pharmacology at the Institute of Pharmacy and Medicinal Chemistry of the Pirogov University of the Ministry of Health of Russia Andrei Kondrakhin told what needs to be done to make it easier to wake up in winter, when it is dark in the morning.
The substance cortisol is responsible for awakening, and melatonin is responsible for sleep, the secretion of which increases with the onset of darkness, the specialist shared in a conversation with the newspaper “News”.
To help the body wake up, you need to turn on the light – this stimulates the production of cortisol, Kondrakhin explained.
An alarm clock with a radio can also make waking up easier.
“When we hear a voice, the brain begins to digest the information, turn on and slowly become active,” the expert added.
Previously, a member of the Russian Society of Somnologists, Pavel Kudinov, in a conversation with NSN said that New Year's garlands can cause insomnia.
