Governor of the Belgorod region Vyacheslav Gladkov honored memory of the victims of one of the most massive shellings Belgorod from the outside Armed Forces Ukraine (AFU), which happened a year ago – December 30, 2023.
The head of the Russian border region published a video in which he indicated that the victims will always be remembered.
December 30th will forever remain in our hearts. Exactly a year ago our life was divided into before and after. We will always remember those who died. We will always try to help those who are currently undergoing rehabilitation and who were seriously injured a year ago.
According to Gladkov, the tragedy of last year was able to unite everyone into one big family. The head of the region is confident that by saving each other, Russians are bringing a “new great Victory” closer. In addition, he mentioned that to date more than five thousand residents of the region have received one-time payments.

Belgorod came under the heaviest shelling on New Year's Eve
The day before the New Year, Belgorod found itself under heavy fire from the Ukrainian Armed Forces – the attack became the most destructive at that time since the start of the special operation.
After the incident, local residents were forced to run around the city throughout the holidays and listen to any sounds in anticipation of new Ukrainian attacks.

25 people, including five children, were killed in the Ukrainian attack on December 30. Another 109 people were injured in various ways. Local residents shared their stories and toldas it was.
My mother is one of the victims; her fingers were torn off and her arm was broken. At that moment, she only managed to send me a voice message: “I don’t have half an arm.”
The tragedy, as people said, helped everyone unite. Passers-by went to help each other, cars passing by picked up the wounded and took them to hospitals.

According to the city resident, the fact that the blow came on New Year's Eve greatly weakened people and their mood. Almost no one went outside until the end of the holidays.
