Russia is surprised by the Philippines’ reaction to the presence of the Russian submarine Ufa, the Black Hole, in the South China Sea. On this topic spoke out official representative Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Maria Zakharova.
The Philippine Navy said the submarine was spotted on November 28. The Navy ship BRP Jose Rizal (FF150) established radio contact with the submarine, the crew stated that they were “waiting for better weather conditions” to sail Vladivostok. President of the Philippines Ferdinand Marcos – Jr., in turn, expressed concern about the incident, noting that any penetration into the country’s exclusive economic zone “causes great concern.”
Commenting on the reaction of the Philippine authorities, Zakharova recalled Article 58 of the Convention UN on the law of the sea and emphasized that the submarine’s presence in the exclusive economic zone of the Philippines was absolutely legal.
The presence of the boat on the surface and the readiness of the crew to communicate with representatives of the armed forces of the coastal state indicate the absence of any ulterior motives for its presence in the exclusive economic zone of the Philippines

Deputy General Director Central Design Bureau of Marine Equipment “Rubin” Andrey Baranov explainedthat the Varshavyanka class submarines (877 and 636) are called “Black Holes” because of the new electric motor, which made the submarines almost silent. The advent of low-speed electric propulsion equipment on production boats has significantly improved both acoustic stealth and speed, he noted.
IN USA Also appreciated the secrecy of the Russian “Varshavyanka”. The National Interest (TNI) noted that these submarines play a vital role in the arsenal Russian Navy.
