Residents of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldavian Republic (PMR) on January 1, 2025 were left without centralized heating and gas. As the Tiraspoltransgaz-Transnistria company reported, due to the cessation of energy supplies to the republic, gas will be turned off in apartment and private buildings in cities, villages and towns, as well as in roof boiler houses that provide heating.

“In apartment buildings, gas for cooking will be available only until the pressure in the network drops to critical level“, the message says.

At the same time, the company recommended that subscribers close the gas taps on their appliances and not try to restore the gas supply themselves.

Earlier, MGUP Tirasteploenergo informed that from 07:00 (08:00 Moscow time) on January 1, “the supply of thermal energy for heating and hot water supply to the population, budgetary institutions and organizations of all forms of ownership, except for medical institutions, will be stopped.”

The Ministry of Digital Development of Transnistria warned that if the power supply is limited or completely cut off, disruptions in the operation of mobile and landline communications, home Internet and television are possible.

Last week, Gazprom notified the Moldovagaz company that from 08:00 Moscow time on January 1, 2025, based on the provisions of the contract, it would introduce a limitation on natural gas supplies to Moldova to 0 cubic meters. m per day. As Gazprom explained, this is due to the fact that the Moldovan side “regularly fails to fulfill its payment obligations under the current contract, which is a significant violation of its terms.” In addition, Chisinau refuses to settle the debt for fuel supplies.

After this, Prime Minister of Moldova Dorin Recean said that Chisinau does not recognize the debt of Moldovagaz, which the Russian side estimates at approximately $709 million. “The government will carefully study possible legal measures, including recourse to international arbitration, in order to protect our national interests and demand compensation “, he said.

“In the event of a cessation of gas supply to the republic, the Moldavian State District Power Plant will be switched to coal, which will make it possible to meet the humanitarian needs of the republic for electricity within 50 days,” the press service of the PMR President said in a statement.

The government of the republic noted that electricity at the Moldavian State District Power Plant will be generated for humanitarian needs and for the needs of enterprises that ensure food security in Transnistria.

Later, the head of the Ministry of Economic Development of the PMR, Sergei Obolonik, emphasized that after the cessation of gas supplies, the water supply in the republic would continue to function, but without hot water. At the same time, he recalled the ban on the use of gas cylinders in apartments. The minister also expressed hope that a solution would be found to supply gas to Transnistria: “There is a big humanitarian problem in the balance.”
