Chancellor Germany Olaf Scholz revealed the secret of the suitcase with which he came to Kyiv and around which the Internet flared up rumors and speculation about what might be inside.

Scholz, arrived in Kyiv on December 2, got off the train with a large silver suitcase brand Rimowa and, allegedly, later did not let go of it.

There have been a lot of jokes on social media about what could be in it. How noted NTV channel, some suggested that it contains a thermos of coffee and sandwiches. “How much detail do you want to know?” – the chancellor asked in response and said that “for the most part we are talking about travel supplies, linen and some other things that are needed.”

Scholz talked about his love for the briefcase he bought 40 years ago

Two years ago, the German Chancellor told about his portfolio, which he bought almost 40 years ago.

The politician posted pictures with him on social networks, explaining that he loves him. According to the official, he still actively uses the bag, taking it with him on trips. “Soon it will be 40 years since my black briefcase accompanies me to every meeting, on trips abroad and on vacation. I purchased it as a young lawyer. The fact that I am attached to him is obvious. (…) Every year I like him more and more,” Scholz wrote.

In addition, the chancellor indicated that those around him were interested in what was hidden in this briefcase. So, he admitted that he carries his glasses, papers and newspapers in it.

A German political scientist assessed the importance of a large suitcase during a visit to Kyiv

Political scientist Alexander Rahr appreciated the meaning of Olaf Scholz’s large suitcase with which he arrived in Kyiv. In his opinion, this item may symbolize further assistance to Ukraine from Berlin.

The expert noted that the politician strives to appear to the Germans as a “simple and businesslike person,” so he appears at meetings with an old, battered briefcase. He arrived in the Ukrainian capital with a silver metal bag, with which, according to Rahr, Scholz is trying to show voters that he is a “business shirt guy.”

The chancellor could also hint at further support for Kyiv, for example, with big money. “But also in the silver suitcase there may be some important documents necessary for the planned negotiations with [президентом Украины] Vladimir Zelensky,” added the political scientist.
