Vice-President of the Russian Chess Federation Sergei Smagin believes that the International Chess Federation (FIDE) should think about the issue of inequality between athletes.
“It’s not bad that they softened the dress code, but if you think about it, it’s unlikely that FIDE would have done this if such a situation had not happened to Carlsen. Here you don’t need to think about jeans, but ask the question: either everyone is equal, or there are some individuals for whose sake certain tournaments are held,” TASS quotes Smagin as saying.
Let us remind you that there was a scandal at the World Rapid Championship. Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen was disqualified in the ninth round. He violated the dress code. The reason for the removal of the 16th world champion from the competition was the jeans he was wearing.
Formerly Hans Niemann reacted that FIDE allowed wearing jeans to the World Blitz Championship.
