The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad held negotiations with the parties to the conflict and decided to leave his post by leaving the country. Also, according to the ministry, the head of the republic gave instructions to carry out the transfer of power peacefully. “Russia did not participate in these negotiations,” the diplomats noted.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia appealed to the parties to the conflict to renounce the use of violence and resolve all governance issues through political means. “In this regard, the Russian Federation is in contact with all groups of the Syrian opposition,” the post emphasizes.
Previously it became known about possible preparations for the withdrawal of Russian aviation from Syria. According to some reports, as early as December 7, military transport aircraft Il-76 and An-124 appeared at the Khmeimim airbase, intended for the transport of personnel and heavy equipment, which could be both a sign of their return to Russia and “a harbinger of something more significant.”
